Though my thoughts are with those touched by the horrific
monster that was “Hurricane Sandy,” most of this beautiful country of ours is
still standing, and for better or for worse the big presidential election is finally over. Of course not to “over-hype” the
importance of the election, but to hear both men tell it, we were to be doomed
on election night had we voted for the other candidate. And depending on who you wanted to win, you
probably thought your guy was right. But
as luck would have it, I look around, and the end of our civilization in
America has not (yet) come to pass.
Seems to me that we still have a country where people, by the literal
“truck load” (just ask a U.S. border agent what I am talking about) are still
trying to get in! In fact just recently
a family friend of mine was just granted citizenship, even when having the
actual certificate to prove it would not impact their everyday life in regards
to things like; employment, marital status, or any kinds of benefits. So, why did they go through all the “red
tape” to become a citizen? They felt
they were an American, and it was the right thing to do. You can’t argue with
that kind of logic. Anyway, we still
live in a place where food is still plentiful, where oranges are the sweetest, and
water is generally accessible and clean. A place where you are not turned away when in need of emergency health care, and
you can still speak out against your own government, without any real threat of
being run over by a tank in your local town square. You can’t really say that about a lot of
places in the world anymore. However,
with that being mentioned, let’s remember that all of the great things about living
in America can and will go away if we let them. We need to hold accountable the man whom we
have elected, we need to hold accountable the men and women who are our
“voices” in congress. Yes, we need to
hold those who (allegedly) work and speak for us locally and in Washington D.C.
accountable for the things they do on our behalf. Let’s keep up with what these
folks are doing to and for us. Take the
time to call and e-mail our dear legislators to remind them of their jobs.
Don’t be afraid to post and blog and talk to others about what is going around
them. Let us be as proactive in our governmental affairs as people who care
enough to both watch and call in to vote for their favorite “idol” on the TV
show. And probably most importantly, let
us not be fooled by the politicians who say that they will; “restore this
nation to what is once was!” For let us not forget that this land and the rest
of the world was, at one time (by most scientific accounts), a barren
wasteland, covered in ice. I’m just
sayin’.
As always, thank you for reading, and God bless America.
I’ll see you in the groves.
